Training levels under ISO 9712:2021

ISO 9712 defines competence expectations by level. Our programmes are structured to build capability progressively—from supervised execution (Level I) to independent evaluation (Level II) and technical leadership (Level III).

Level I

Performs specific NDT tasks in accordance with written instructions and under supervision.

  • Equipment set-up and basic calibration to defined instructions
  • Execution of standard techniques within defined limits
  • Accurate recording of indications and results

Level II

Selects techniques, performs inspections independently, interprets and evaluates results to acceptance criteria.

  • Technique selection and optimisation for the task

Level III

Defines NDT strategy, validates procedures, and provides technical direction and governance.

  • Procedure preparation/approval and technical justification
  • Audit-ready oversight of NDT operations and competence

Methods and applicability

Training is delivered by method and mapped to relevant product sectors and industrial applications. Method availability may vary by schedule and facility set-up.

Certification, assessment and traceability

Training is designed to prepare candidates for the applicable theoretical and practical assessments, with attention to: equipment control, technique limitations, acceptance criteria, and reporting discipline.

Where applicable, we support candidates with guidance on prerequisites (training, experience, vision requirements) and on maintaining certification through renewal and recertification routes.
